Man Arrested Over Racist Abuse Sent To England Players At Euro 2020

A person has been arrested after racist social media posts had been directed in the direction of England gamers following the Euro 2020 closing, Better Manchester Police (GMP) stated.

The suspect, 37, from Ashton upon Mersey, arrived at Cheadle Heath police station on Wednesday morning and was arrested on suspicion of an offence beneath Part 1 of the Malicious Communications Act. He stays in custody for questioning.

A put up was made on the night of July 11 following the Italy vs England match at Wembley.

Detective Inspector Matt Gregory, of GMP’s Trafford Division stated:

“The actions of a small variety of folks overshadowed what was a vastly unifying occasion for our nation on Sunday night.

“We’re agency in our dedication, any racist abuse whether or not on-line or off shouldn’t be acceptable.

“We now have one man in custody and our investigation continues.”
